I rarely organise public workshops but as newly arrived in Norwich, I would like to invite you to see me in action and gain the tools to activate your confidence.

The crisis of 2007/8 laid bare fundamental shortcomings in the assumptions underlying much of the world’s financial systems. Investors found themselves faced with new and unfamiliar risks that demanded a more considered and better researched response. This seminar looks at investment theory in the light of the financial crisis and, by offering greater insight into where genuine value can be added, suggests ways investors can better evaluate the balance between risk and return.

The session will be of interest to investors and their advisers. Each seminar will qualify for 1.5hours of SRA accredited CPD

We expect each session to last around an hour and a half with a further 30 minutes for questions and discussion. A light lunch or breakfast will be available. The seminar is free of charge but places are limited.

Fulfilling the promise of AI & disruptive technologies: UEA event with IBM

The University of East Anglia (UEA) invites you to attend the latest event in our AI series with the opportunity to hear from Andy Stanford-Clark – CTO at IBM UK, ‘Master Inventor’, and UEA alumnus.

The event, compered by Tim Robinson, COO at TechEast, will explore the opportunities presented by not only AI, but also the Internet of Things and technology more generally, and our panel, representing our region’s key sectors, will discuss the practical applications at the front end of the business.

EEEGR Annual Innovation Awards

If previous competitions are anything to go by, the Energy Innovation Awards 2014 are sure to reveal ideas with national and international potential. They’ve proved many times over that there really is such a thing as a new idea.

Lotus Redundancies Taskforce

Yesterday Lotus announced a significant number of redundancies. Responding to confirmation that 550 jobs are to go at the company’s iconic Hethel HQ, Cllr Fabian Eagle said that Norfolk County Council, working with South Norfolk Council, would do everything it could to help those affected by the news and ensure their valuable skills remain in the county.

They will be creating a taskforce offering a comprehensive support package to redundant Lotus Cars employees and connecting them directly with vacancies in the manufacturing and engineering sectors. The taskforce will be chaired by Cllr Eagle and South Norfolk Council Leader, Daniel Elmer.

Cllr Eagle said: “These job losses are a huge blow, but rest assured we will do absolutely everything we can to ensure as many people as possible are supported into new employment and their skills are not lost to Norfolk’s economy.

“A taskforce will lead the work on this and organisations like NAAME and the Growth Hub that are hosted by the council will be able to help connect those affected with vacancies or training opportunities.”

Cllr Elmer added: “This is a very difficult time, and our priority must be the people who are losing their jobs. Working together, we will do everything we can to provide the support they need.”

Support that will be offered to Lotus employees and their supply chains through teams at both Norfolk County Council and South Norfolk Council and their networks will include:

• A joint package of job search and CV support with Working Well Norfolk and DWP colleagues for all employees as required, including benefit advice and support from DWP
• Tailored support from Apprenticeships Norfolk for apprentices being made redundant
• A brokerage service delivered with partners to connect those being made redundant with vacancies at Norfolk engineering firms through our advanced manufacturing sector group NAAME (New Anglia Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering), and New Anglia Growth Hub
• Support for Lotus staff wanting to set up businesses through our start-up programme run by Norfolk Libraries service, the Growth Hub, MENTA and Hethel Innovation.
• Provide opportunities for start-up businesses at Hethel Innovation Centre and Scottow Enterprise Park.
• Hardship support offered by South Norfolk Council’s multi-service Help Hub.

UEA & Norwich Research Park i-Teams Final Presentations

The University of East Anglia (UEA) invites you to attend the final presentations of the UEA-Norwich Research Park i-Teams & Heritage i-Teams 2019 programme.

i-Teams is an exciting initiative involving early career researchers from UEA, institutes across the Norwich Research Park and Norwich University of the Arts (NUA). Working collaboratively with peers and business mentors, the teams have been exploring and developing marketing and commercial opportunities for projects derived from existing academic research projects or projects from the heritage sector, to create an impactful business proposal.

The 2019 programme, will culminate with the teams presenting their recommendations for the future development of the following research innovations:

Technology i-Teams

– MyEvolution – health professional training and career tool (Norwich Medical School, UEA)

– Fluorometric respiration assays (School of Chemistry, UEA)

– Tomato-based cosmetics (John Innes Centre and School of Biological Sciences, UEA)

Join us for our brain-teasing Annual Pure Norwich Charity Quiz 2019!

The Pure Norwich Charity Quiz brings together teams for a fun evening of playful rivalry and provides you with the opportunity to pit your wits against other local businesses to be crowned quiz champion! Can you take on last year’s winning team?

You can enter a team of 4 players and up to 3 teams per organisation. The cost is £40 per team which includes a jacket potato with a choice of toppings. A fully licensed bar is also available. The doors will open at 6.00pm with the quiz starting at 6.45pm

This year we are supporting Age UK Norfolk, the charity dedicated to helping everyone make the most of life. Age UK provides services and support to inspire, enable and support older people. Money raised on the night will go towards providing life-enhancing services and vital support to people in later life.
