NIDAS and Norwich City Work Together to Support Male Victims of Domestic Abuse

Norfolk Integrated Domestic Abuse Service (NIDAS) and Norwich City Football Club have teamed up to raise awareness of the support that is available to men experiencing domestic abuse.

Before the Canaries’ last home match of the season against Cardiff City, NIDAS had a stand outside the ground displaying information about the service and engaging with men about domestic abuse.

It was well received by fans, with many stopping to talk NIDAS’ Male IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisor) or pick up information leaflets detailing the support the service provides.

Domestic abuse is often a taboo subject for men, which can add barriers to accessing support or confiding in friends, family, or colleagues for support.

NIDAS and Norwich City are aiming to break down some of these barriers and encourage conversations around this important issue, helping men experiencing domestic abuse in Norfolk to access the support that they need.

It is hoped that this is the start of a long-term collaboration to raise awareness of domestic abuse and increase the visibility of the support that is available to those experiencing it.

NIDAS was created by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Norfolk to end the postcode lottery of medium and high-risk domestic abuse support in Norfolk, ensuring that all residents in the county are able to access services, regardless of where they live or who they are.

Delivered in partnership with Leeway Domestic Violence and Abuse Service, The Daisy Programme and Safe Partnerships (for target hardening of high-risk clients), the service provides direct support for adults (16+) of all genders.

The service also offers dedicated support for children and young people (if their parent or care giver has been in service) along with coordinated multi-agency support and access to specialist court IDVAs based in the county’s Magistrates courts, who offer support to victims or survivors in domestic abuse proceedings.

NIDAS IDVAs work directly with victims or survivors to develop personalised safety and support plans to help people to move on from abuse with increased confidence and wellbeing, towards long-term positive outcomes.

Charlotte Richardson, NIDAS Service Manager, said: “We are delighted to work with Norwich City Football Club to tackle this important issue. The response we got from fans was positive and it was great to have the opportunity to raise awareness of the important work that we do, as well as encouraging men to open up about domestic abuse.

“We hope to continue to work closely with the club over the coming months, breaking down the barriers that prevent men from accessing support and generally encouraging conversations around domestic abuse.”

Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Sarah Taylor, said: “It’s important to recognise that domestic abuse is not limited by class, race and gender – this can affect anyone from any walk of life and there should be no shame for seeking help and support. The NIDAS male Independent Domestic Violence Advisor is a crucial role to encourage and improve communication with male victims.

“We know that one in seven men suffer from domestic abuse with catastrophic outcomes affecting their mental health, confidence and wellbeing. It’s essential for everyone to be vigilant and help signpost family and friends in need of this service.”

Norwich City FC: “It was fantastic to have NIDAS support our Healthy Fans project at Carrow Road on the final game of last season. The day had a great feel to it and NIDAS’s involvement gave our fans the opportunity to have personal, sensitive conversations with the right person if needed. As we have a high foot fall of fans walking around the stadium before the match, just having NIDAS’s presence visible would have been enough for fans to take note of the service if ever needed. We have NIDAS posters and leaflets available in our matchday support hub for future signposting.”

Brancaster in the House at the Royal Norfolk Show

We’re back from the Show! The Brancaster team were proud to exhibit at the Royal Norfolk Show 2025, one of the UK’s largest two-day agricultural events, held at the Norfolk Showground.

As a member of the Norfolk Chambers of Commerce, we were back in the Chamber’s vibrant business tent, which brought together a diverse range of local enterprises, innovators, and community organisations.

The event provided a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with both new and existing clients, as well as to forge new relationships with fellow Norfolk-based businesses.

With thousands of visitors attending the show, our team was kept busy throughout the two days, engaging in meaningful conversations about financial planning, retirement strategies, and the importance of long-term financial clarity.

We Love Local

The business tent served as a hub for networking and collaboration within the Norfolk business community. We’ve always believed in the power of local partnerships.

Being part of the Royal Norfolk Show, and the Chamber, gave us the perfect platform to showcase our values, meet like-minded professionals, and have some really valuable conversations.

Among the many visitors to the Brancaster House stand were representatives from Paul Macro Photography, Lucas & Wyllys Solicitors, and Priscilla Bacon Hospice – great partners of ours each of whom shared insights into their own work and explored opportunities for future collaboration. These conversations highlighted the strength and diversity of Norfolk’s professional community and the shared commitment to supporting individuals and families across the region.

Pull Up A Chair

One of the most talked-about features of our stand this year was our custom-designed 3D cardboard chairs. Fully branded and made from sustainable materials, the seats provided a comfortable place for visitors to pause and chat.

The chairs were a real talking point. People loved the design and the fact that they were eco-friendly. It was a great way to start conversations – not just about financial planning, but about how businesses can make small, thoughtful choices that reflect their values.

As the weather was sweltering, we also offered free bottled water to visitors and – as a touch of fun – we handed out pick ‘n’ mix bags of sweets, which proved popular with attendees.

A Successful and Enjoyable Event

The Royal Norfolk Show is always a highlight in the county’s calendar, and 2025 was no exception.

Financial planning is deeply personal. Events like this allow us to have real conversations with people, about their goals, their long-term plans, and how we can help them build a more secure future. It’s not just about numbers; it’s about understanding what matters most to each individual.

Looking Ahead

We’re incredibly proud to be part of the Norfolk business landscape. The Royal Norfolk Show reminded us just how much talent, passion, and potential there is in this region. We’re excited to keep building on the connections we make and to continue helping people plan for the future with confidence.

The Healthy Parent Club Launched

Too many times I have seen parents push their health to the side to support their family, then, burning out and actually being in a worse place to support from.

I get it, but we cannot pour from an empty cup, our children come first but we can only put them first if we aren’t burning out to begin with.

We have launched The Healthy Parent Club at OJay Health with the first 10 spots being half price at £100 per month.

It is for those parents who have real busy lives but have let their bodies fall behind. People who know their kids are watching. The parents who are ready to truly reclaim their energy, their confidence and their health.

It is for the parent who

– Is waking up more tired than when they went to bed

– Is constantly reactive to their children and their patience is shot

– Is wanting to improve their health but time for working out is non-existent

– knows that their libido is down, stress is up and food feels like their only release

This is designed specifically for parents who want to get ahead.

What We’re Hearing from Norfolk SMEs in 2025: Confidence, Challenges, and Change

As we reflect on our recent participation in the Royal Norfolk Show and our ongoing conversations with local businesses, a clear picture is emerging from Norfolk’s SME landscape in 2025. Businesses across sectors are navigating a complex environment — but many are also showing remarkable resilience and adaptability.

Confidence in Innovation and Community Support

We spoke with dozens of business owners and professionals during the show, and one encouraging theme stood out: confidence in innovation. Many SMEs are investing in new technologies, digital tools, and creative service models to stay competitive. There’s also a strong sense of community — businesses are increasingly collaborating with peers, sharing resources, and engaging with local networks to stay informed and supported.

The Pressures Keeping Business Owners Awake at Night

Despite the positives, several recurring challenges were voiced:

Cash Flow Constraints: Late payments, rising supplier costs, and uncertainty around interest rates continue to affect liquidity.

Staffing Struggles: Recruitment and retention remain difficult, especially for skilled roles. Many employers are feeling the pressure of higher wage expectations and competition for talent.

Regulatory Burdens: From tax changes to sustainability reporting, many SMEs feel overwhelmed by administrative demands and compliance risks.

Change as a Catalyst for Support

One major takeaway from the show: business leaders are more open than ever to talking about problems. The stigma around seeking advice is gradually shifting. This openness is a promising sign that more businesses may reach out before problems escalate.
