Learning Outcomes

• Understand the role of the first aider

• Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;

• Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);

• Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation;

• Understand the use of an A.E.D

• Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;

• Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;

• Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering shock;

• Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters);

• Administer first aid to a casualty with: Injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including a suspected spinal injury; Chest injuries; Burns and scalds; Eye injuries; Sudden poisoning; Anaphylactic shock;

• Recognize the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes).

Topic areas covered The qualification will enable successful candidate to understand and, at Level 3, put into practice the following: – The importance of health and safety in the workplace – The principles involved in risk assessment – The relationship between hazard and risk as part of an accident and ill health prevention – The hierarchy of controls to control risk to an acceptable level – The risk assessment process in a workplace

Assessment The Level 3 Award in Risk Assessment is assessed in two parts; – Part 1 is a 30 question multiple-choice examination lasting 1 hour. Learners must achieve 20 out of 30 to pass – Part 2 is a centre-set and marked assessment. Learners are expected to undertake a risk assessment, which will be internally set and assessed by the centre and externally moderated by Highfield (HABC).  

Who is this course for? Anyone who needs more practice; people responsible for conducting risk assessment and putting controls into practice, i.e. understanding the wider management of health and safety. Managers, supervisors, business owners, safety representatives.

Prerequisites: Basic literacy, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn and participate. A workplace to complete a risk assessment on is also key, but not essential

As a result of this course, users can expect to be able to design and create tables to store their data and to specify what data is appropriate, as well as choosing how each table should be linked to the others in the database. As well as the basics, it will look in more depth at relationships, and focus on more advanced queries, allowing the user to create a more complete business or personal database. Additionally, they will have learnt how to extract the required data using a combination of queries and filtering. We will also look at Access Forms and Reports to enable users to print, read and enter their data in a user-friendly format. Delegates should have sufficient Windows experience beforehand and by the end of the course you will be more comfortable in designing and implementing a finished relational database. This course is aimed at providing employees who have been nominated as fire marshals or fire wardens with the knowledge and skills to carry out their duties effectively. This course is delivered by qualified fire fighters. It is designed to provide delegates with an awareness of the requirements and implications of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, in addition to the general issues regarding fire safety. Delegates will learn the common causes of fires and how fires spread, in order that they may take this knowledge back to their workplace or area of responsibility to reduce the risk of fires starting or spreading, together with emergency procedures to be followed in case of fire. Duration: Half-day course (9:30am to 12:30pm approximately) Equipment: No equipment is necessary for you to bring to this course. Pens and note paper will be available.
